Read the current status first
Check whether Then & There is capturing, processing, saving, importing or preparing to share. These are different stages. The queue shows photos needing review or Retry; the import screen names its current stage. Avoid starting the same task repeatedly while it is still running.
Recover an unfinished scan
Reopen Then & There after an interruption and look for recovery or queue entries in the affected bundle. Use Review photo or the offered recovery action, inspect the original and crop, then save. If an item says Could not finish — original retained, try Retry before discarding it.
Restore a deleted photo from its bundle
Open the bundle's Recycle bin. Restore photo returns a saved item to the bundle; Restore and review brings an unfinished capture back for checking. A photo's linked back moves with its front when the photo is recycled. Separately extracted collage photos remain independent.
Empty the bin only when you intend permanent deletion
Delete permanently removes selected items from a recycle bin. Empty this bin removes that bundle's discarded items. Settings also offers Empty all recycle bins. Read the confirmation: these actions cannot be undone inside Then & There, and they do not delete copies already exported elsewhere.
Restore an archive backup
Use the archive import action and select your Then & There archive ZIP in the file picker. Let copying, unpacking and validation complete, then check the restored bundle, a few photos and their dates. Keep the original backup until you have verified the restore. An ordinary folder of exported images is not the same as a Then & There archive.
Retry the specific operation that failed
For a failed crop save, keep the selected frame and use the offered retry. For a ready ZIP that could not open sharing, choose Share ZIP again. If the photo export no longer matches changed dates, return to review and rebuild it. If storage is low, free space without deleting the only copy of your archive.
Reset the capture setup when detection is unreliable
Clear the scanning surface, check the phone is steady and recalibrate the empty background. Reduce reflections and make the print's edges easy to distinguish. Use Capture now and inspect the crop when automatic edges will not settle. If the saved picture is empty or blurred, recapture the print; cropping cannot restore content that was not captured.
Get help without exposing private material
The Help icon describes the current screen, and Help & walkthrough reopens the introductory guide. For a repeatable problem, note the app version, device, action and exact error text. Share a non-sensitive example or a redacted screenshot if possible; never include a library API key, sign-in code or private backup in a public report.
A few useful things to know
- Do not uninstall Then & There to clear a problem before making and checking a separate archive backup; the collection is stored on the device.
- Reopening the app can resume retained work, but operating systems can pause background tasks. Check the status instead of assuming a notification means an upload or export has completed.
- You can add more photos, refine dates and correct clues in the same bundle. Starting again is usually unnecessary.
