Looking beyond the subscription?

If you searched for a Photomyne alternative without a subscription, payment is a sensible place to start. Then & There costs £14.99 once in the UK, per store. The purchase covers its scanning, people, stories, dating and export tools. Android and Apple purchases are separate; each store shows local prices and terms.

Photomyne also offers alternatives to a recurring payment. Its official plans page lists monthly, yearly and One-Shot memberships. Its web checkout currently describes a one-time option lasting three years. There is also a separate paid iOS app, Photo Scanner Plus, listed at £1.99 in the UK with optional in-app purchases; its description distinguishes single-device utility from additional cloud and multi-device features. Prices and offers can change.

That makes this a choice about the workflow you want, rather than a claim that every Photomyne option requires a subscription or that Then & There is always cheaper.

From a scanned photo to a place in the family timeline

Then & There is worth considering when your next question is “when was this taken?” rather than simply how to digitise the print.

  1. Keep the photograph and its story together. Scan the front, review the crop, capture writing on the back and add a note or narration. Keep stories and photo backs.
  2. Name the people you recognise. Confirm detected faces and record the known birthdays and life events that can support a date. Face detection helps find faces; you confirm who they belong to. Name the people.
  3. Use what you remember. A child’s age or a remembered move can narrow the date. Compare with other photos and review conflicting clues before locking a date. An estimate remains an estimate. See the dating workflow.
  4. Take the dates into your other photo apps. Review the specific day written to exported photo metadata while retaining the range and clues in an archive backup. Understand exports and backups.

Choose the tools that fit your collection

Then & There focuses on printed photographs, their context and a timeline you can review. It is not a hosted cloud backup service or an automatic restoration and colourisation service. Keep your own archive backups, review uncertain crops and expect to contribute the family knowledge that supports a date.

If restoration, colourisation or a managed cloud library is your priority, look at Photomyne’s feature and plan descriptions as well. If scanning and building an evidence-based family timeline are your priority, explore Then & There’s guides before buying.

Does “pay once” mean a free trial?

No. Then & There is a paid download, not a free trial. Read the guides first and check your device’s store listing for price, compatibility, availability and refund terms.
